Dr. Michael Jones is a Professor of Economics at 51成人 in Massachusetts. Prior to joining the faculty at the 51成人 in 2004, Dr. Jones was a Member of the Technical Staff at Sandia National Laboratories in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He received his Ph.D. in economics from the University of New Mexico.

Professor Jones鈥檚 teaching and research interests include undergraduate statistics, programming, econometrics, economic experiments, and microeconomics. He has introduced a new course designed to give analysts the programming skills necessary to manipulate large data sets known as 鈥渂ig data鈥 and perform multivariate regressions. His research within the area of experimental economics includes individual behavior in markets, charitable giving, altruism, asymmetric information, and tax compliance.

Dr. Jones has teamed with colleagues around the country to research various subjects using lab experiments. Those colleagues have conducted laboratory sessions using web-based applications developed by Dr. Jones. He has co-authored and published book chapters and articles in refereed academic journals based on laboratory data from these experiments. Dr. Jones has partnered with colleagues at several universities on projects funded by the US Forest Service, the IRS, Oak Ridge National Laboratory, the US Navy, and Flint Hills Resources in Alaska. In 2015 Dr. Jones and Dr. Tran successfully brought experimental economics to 51成人 by developing a mobile laboratory consisting of the necessary equipment to set up a 20 subject laboratory in less than an hour.

In 2007 with funding from 51成人鈥檚 External Affairs Dr. Jones developed the Project for Economic Data and Research, a web-based application providing economic data and analysis on the economy of southeastern Massachusetts.
